Workshop By Mr Simon Ng

On the 24th of May, Mr Simon Ng, a well known band director came all the way from Singapore to visit our band through IMH. He taught us many new techniques and exposed us to a lot of information on Singaporean and Japanese bands. He visits Japanese bands very frequently and he is known as Mr. Takashi there. Mr Simon gave us suggestions to improve ourselves and he hopes to come back and visit us again to see how our band grows.

We are very thankful and grateful that he came over to Kuching to listen to us, voluntarily! He is a very friendly and respected band director. Thank you, Mr Simon!

Teacher’s Day 2014

Image

Once again, it’s teacher’s day!

On the 16th of May, just a few days after our Mid-year exams, our school held the annual teacher’s day celebration. As usual, we played Negaraku, Ibu Pertiwiku and St. Teresa’s School Song for the formal section of Teacher’s Day 2014, themed, 60s 70s and 80s.

After that, we kicked start the informal part of the teacher’s day celebration with “Fireflies” and “Prince of Egypt”.

Then the Form 5s [The Neon Buskers] (that’s us!) presented a ensemble performance “Birdland”. The crowd went wild and the teachers enjoyed it too!

Upon request from our principal, Puan Mary John, we played “Kwek Mambo” spontaneously as it suits the theme. The prefect councils started dancing to the song on the stage, and so did the teachers! Puan Mary requested all the teachers to be up on the stage to dance. It was definitely a special teacher’s day, different from all the other celebrations. All the teachers enjoyed it, very much!

The celebration ended at 12 pm with positive comments from the teachers and our principal. Great job everyone! On behalf of the band, I would like to wish all the teachers a Happy Teacher’s Day! Thank you for your dedication and love for us 🙂

Spring Cleaning!

On the 24th of March(during our Mid Term Holidays), the band committee organized a big music room clean up (Spring Cleaning 2014). We were divided teams, each team having its own specific job to do. We had 4 teams, Team Awesome – master file arranging, Team Magnificent – labeling of instrument and stand inventory, Team Sparkle – cleanliness of the Music Room and Team Fabulous – arranging the uniforms (including the past years’ uniforms).

The whole spring cleaning was succesful and it went well with the teamwork from all the members. It ended at 12.00 p.m.. Everyone felt really tired but it was definitely worth it. 🙂

Team Building Time!

On the 22nd of March, which was also the start of the mid-term holidays, the Form 4s organized a team building session with all band members at 10.30 a.m. in the Teresian Hall after we had full band practice. This activity was held to strengthen the bonds between band members of every form and also to promote teamwork in the band.

New Band Members!

Today, (5/2/14) we had our first official sectionals with the new juniors!

We started off with the Physical Exercise Program which consists of running (laps), frog jumps, helicopters (you have to put out your arms straight and move them around in circles), sit ups and pushups. The program is divided into sessions where two Form 2s will be in-charge for each session to lead the program. Each session consists of different activities and the intensity increases by a little after a few sessions.

Then, everyone cooled down and went back to the Music Room for sectionals under the guidance of Mr Brian.
